Digital Overview

Features & Benefits

  • Transcoders Feature Exceptional Noise Performance Providing Greater Headroom Before Signal Loss
  • Most Digital Products Include LCD Based Programming Interfaces with Optional Computer Control Capapbility
  • Deploy High Definition Easily and Economically

Digital Products are quickly becoming the standard in the cable marketplace and are helping to bring more advanced technology to consumers and operators. Transmitting the information used to make TV picture and sound as data bits allows for higher resolution and dramatically better picture quality and sound than previously available with analog. The government is also doing their part in helping nudge the market to make this transition and the FCC has set February 17, 2009 as the date for the transition from analog broadcasts to digital only broadcasts. Blonder Tongue has several new Digital Products and continues to devote more and more research and development resources into this emerging technology area. Visit us often to experience the advancements in digital technology for the cable market today.

Featured Product Lines:

The AQD (ATSC/QAM Demodulator) is our latest product release. It is a modular based unit that allows the reception and demodulation of an 8VSB or QAM (Annex B) signal for analog based delivery. The way this is done is by locking to an off-air 8VSB or QAM Annex B digital signal and demodulating it to an NTSC baseband video and audio output to permit an easy interface with existing Blonder Tongue modulators. This product provides the perfect platform to ease the transition from digital based transmissions by allowing the existing installed base of analog television sets to display the digital based signals without the need for any additional decoder in the hotel room, classroom, or home.

Another featured recent addition to the Digital Product line is the AQM or Agile QAM Modulator. The AQM integrates an advanced QAM modulator with an exceptionally low noise upconverter with optimized output stability. The QAM modulator utilizes the latest integrated circuit technology to support common symbol constellations of 64 and 256 QAM as well as next generation technology of 512 & 1024 QAM. It is the first commercially available QAM modulator in the market to support 1024 QAM. Plus, it uses the standard Blonder Tongue micro-modular rack chassis and power supply, allowing it to coexist and complement existing analog equipment.

The Transcoder family also features it?s latest addition with the new QTM-II that provides an operator the ability to ?HD Proof? a transcoder deployment. This improved sense of security against obselescence is accomplished with the QTM-II ability to upgraded to support reception and transcoding of 8PSK based satellite signals featuring HD (High Definition) programming from Echostar® Dish Netowrk? for transcoding to 256 QAM. This upgrade, which can be done in the field or by the factory then allows operators to deploy SD (Standard Definition) capable QTM-II units with confidence that as the number of transponders delivering HD programming increase, the deployed QTM-II modules can be upgraded to be compatible for transcoding either SD or HD signals.
